About a hundred people attended this year's German Remembrance Day, which took place in Glencree (Co. Wicklow) on 13 November 2011. The commemoration began with an ecumenical service.

Charity Bazaar 2011

International Charity Bazaar

This year's International Charity Bazzar took place on 13 November 2011 at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin. The stand of the German Embassy offered German Marzipan, sweets, gingerbread, advent calendars, the well beloved 'Stollen' and much more. All money raised was used to support Irish charities.

Luther

Film screening: Luther

As a contribution to the 'Luther Decade', the film Luther (dir. by Eric Till) was shown at the Goethe-Institut Dublin on 3 November 2011. A discussion led by Dr. Dermot Moran (University College Dublin) followed the screening. This was the opening event to a series of seminars, lectures, concerts and other events which will all take place to mark the 'Luther Decade'. The evening was a conjoint event of the Embassy, the Goethe-Institut and the Lutheran Church in Ireland. National Day Reception and Appointment of Honorary Consul

On 10th October 2011, the Ambassador hosted a reception in Galway on the occasion of the Day of German Unity and the appointment of Prof Schmidt-Hannisa as Honorary Consul. The reception concluded a four-day trip to cities of Limerick and Galway as well as the counties Limerick and Galway.

After having arrived in Ireland this summer, Ambassador Dr. Eckhard Lübkemeier and his wife Annegret Lübkemeier hosted the traditional reception on Germany’s Day of National Unity for the first time.

10 years after a hideous crime

On Sunday 25 September 2011, the local community of Donore (Co. Meath, a short drive from Drogheda) gathered to remember Bettina Poeschel, a young German journalist who 10 years ago had been murdered in the area. She had been visiting the nearby Newgrange. The murderer was caught and convicted and is serving a life sentence. The village of Donore and the family of the victim who live in Munich, Germany, have established close relations.

Ambassador visits German landscape architect

The German Ambassador recently visited the German landscape architect Dorothea Burger in Ballymun (Co. Dublin). Mrs Burger is currently the Senior Executive landscape architect with Ballymun Regeneration Ltd. (BRL) and is managing the external works for the past 10 years.

Opening of art exhibition in Booterstown, Co. Dublin

The German Ambassador opened the Booterstown art exhibition on 8 April 2011. The exhibition was displayed at the Community Centre in Grotto Avenue.

Visit to St. Philomena's Primary School in Bray

The German Ambassador H.E. Busso von Alvensleben visited St. Philomena's Primary School as part of the Bray Lions Club's 'Windows on the World' Project on 10 February 2011.
