St Kilian's Deutsche Schule
St Kilian's German School (Deutsche Schule) in Dublin is the only German school in Ireland. It is member of the network of German Schools abroad and supported by the German Embassy in Dublin.
St Kilian's was founded in 1952 to teach German girls and boys, who were guest in Irish families and who have already lost their mother tongue, German as a evening and Sunday school. In 1954 a day school named St Kilian's Preparatory School was established based on the already existing evening and Sunday school. At the beginning the school only taught Primary School students, but in 1959 a Kindergarten and in 1974 a Secondary School was founded.
Now students can make their Junior and Leaving Certificate at St Kilian's. The school is recognised by the Irish Department of Education. In addition to the normal Irish Leaving Certificate students can make a bi-lingual Leaving Certificate in German language, literature and history. This Leaving Certificate qualifies students of St Kilian's to start studing in Germany as it is recognised by the German Ministry of Education.
St Kilian's is situated in Roebuck Road, Clonskeagh, Dublin 14. Since 2001/02 the Lycée Français d'Irelande relocated their school grounds to St Kilian's so that there is Eurocampus now. Junior Cycle students from 1st to 3rd year from Lycée Français and from St. Kilian's are teached together. They can decide later if they want to take the courses for the Irish Leaving Certificate or the French Baccalauréat.
